Hâle Utar, Second Vice President

Hâle Utar is a Professor of Economics and holds the Sidney Meyer Endowed Chair in International Economics at Grinnell College. She is also a Research Fellow at CESifo, IZA Network at LISER, and the ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin, and serves as an Associate Editor at the Review of International Economics.

Utar's teaching and research focuses on international economics. Her research examines how international trade shapes the organization of firms, industries and value chains, generates often costly worker transitions across sectors and occupations, and reshapes family structures, with consequences for gender inequality. Her work has appeared in journals including the Review of Economic Studies, Review of Economics and Statistics, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, International Economic Review, Journal of International Economics, and Journal of Development Economics, among others. She has also contributed to policy outlets such as VoxEU and VoxDev, and her work has been featured by the World Economic Forum, among others.

She previously served on the faculty at the University of Colorado at Boulder and Bielefeld University. She holds a PhD from Pennsylvania State University.
